Ryuji Sakamoto 坂本 竜司
History
Ryuji is one of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, and one of the first to join the group after awakening to his Persona, Captain Kidd, adopting the Phantom Thief nickname Skull.
Having escaped an abusive home, he lives with his single mother in Tokyo, Japan, where he attends Shujin Academy as a second year student. He used to be the star runner of the school's track team, before the cruel club advisor Suguru Kamoshida broke his leg, leaving him unable to run anymore. Ousted by both teachers and peers, he meets Joker just as he transfers to Shujin, becoming involved with the Metaverse, and awakening to his Persona. Together, they vow to avenge the abused and exploited, changing the hearts of rotten adults all over Tokyo.
As they realize just how deep the corruption of hearts really goes, Ryuji helps his friends get to the very bottom of it, discovering the false god Yaldabaoth, born of humanity's distorted desires of sloth. It had devised a twisted game unbeknownst to everyone, granting select humans the power to influence hearts in order to see which would win out: the desire to reform and rule the world, or the desire to destroy and recreate it. The teenage Phantom Thieves use the power of friendship and rebellion to kill God on Christmas Eve, saving the world and all of humanity.
But the desire to change hearts is a strong one, and Ryuji finds himself embroiled in yet more reality-bending escapades at the turn of the new year. Their former school counselor, in an attempt to erase all suffering from people's lives, reshaped reality so everyone's dreams came true, wiping the trauma that shaped them from existence. But the Phantom Thieves, spearheaded by Ryuji, eventually discover the truth and break free from the illusion, deciding they will all forge their own paths in life—even if it means living with incomprehensible pain. They defeat counselor Maruki, restoring reality to how it should be.
By the time Ryuji arrives in Folkmore, the Phantom Thieves have officially disbanded. He has decided to move away and transfer to a different school, closer to a physical rehabilitation center, so he can start the hard work of regaining full strength and mobility in his leg.

Role
physical attributes: Ryuji will take on physical characteristics of an oni, a demonic creature from Japanese mythology. He grows two black horns that curl up and back from his temples, and may continue to grow smaller sets of horns should his myth-hood deepen. His ears will grow pointed, and a large third eye will open vertically on his forehead, all to aid his enhanced perceptive abilities. When he becomes enraged, fangs protrude outward like tusks from his mouth, and his skin seems to crackle with electrical energy.
non-physical qualities: Ryuji's reflexes and agility will be strengthened, in addition to his enhanced sensory perception, making him more likely to spot incoming threats. With his amplified luck, he's more likely to dodge incoming attacks and land critical strikes. He is also much less inclined to sleep than before, although his appetite has increased tremendously. With a sharper mind, he's more in tune with his Persona and magical abilities, although he's becoming much more prone to hyperfixation, finding it near-painful to break away from activities he enjoys.
reasoning: Ryuji is a damn good kid. He's kind, gregarious, and altruistic, with a strong moral compass and sense of justice that's honestly more befitting of a Legend. Nothing makes him madder than the strong hurting the weak.
But his passionate and protective nature combines with his awful temper in ways that ultimately hurt him. He's reckless, tempestuous, prone to lashing out and rushing heedlessly into dangerous situations. Because he's unable to keep his head down and ignore obvious injustices, particularly those that adults inflict on the young without consequence, Ryuji has been labeled a troublemaker. A disobedient problem child, an aggressive vulgar bully, a nail that refuses to get hammered down. In collectivist Japan, his loud rebellion and refusal to endure unbearable unfairness lead to both teachers and peers ruthlessly shunning him.
Suddenly finding himself a social pariah, Ryuji chooses to wear the mask of delinquency as protective armor. And later, when he becomes a Phantom Thief, he dons the mask of a man disgraced to fight society's evils. If doing the right thing, if protecting the weak and fighting for justice makes him a villain, then Ryuji will be a damn good villain.
